for TOASTMASTERS MEETINGS

ADDRESSES

Always address the person who introduces you
(ie. Mr./Mme. Chairman, Toastmaster, Table Topic Master) and the audience.

arrow

When: As soon as your Introducer is seated, or very close to the beginning of your presentation.

CLAPPING

arrow

Who: The person in charge of the meeting at the time always leads the clapping.

arrow

When: As soon as the Introduction is finished and it is time for the person who has been introduced to come to the lectern.

arrow

As soon as the Speaker has finished, the Introducer begins to clap and hurries to the lectern to shake the Speaker’s hand.

arrow

How long: Clap from the time the person has been introduced until he/she is about to shake hands with the Introducer.

MOVEMENT

To the lectern: Anticipate when your turn is coming and then get up and walk quickly to the lectern as soon as you have been introduced.
Away from the lectern: Both Introducer and Speaker should be aware of not walking in front of or behind each other whenever possible.

THE LECTERN (Stand behind a lectern and on a podium)

NEVER leave the lectern empty. Whoever is standing at it at the time, waits directly behind it until he/she shakes hands and is ready to leave.

- * When more informally speaking to the audience in front of the lectern, be sure to move back behind it when finished, ready to shake hands.
