Shamans, Witch Doctors and Medicine Men do not often get
mentioned in an opening dialogue, but our Chairman for the
evening, Delene, managed to include them all in her description
of the evening’s theme “REMEDIES”!
T’was a close knit evening – a cosy attendance by just 9
members, but rich in speech and table topic quality!
It started with Induction of yet another new member – Bahman
Sotoodian – welcome to our club!
Azeem was our Grammarian and Wordsmith for the night. He is
always confident when he speaks and tells a great story.
PANACEA – was a great word and fit for the theme of the night -
it was unusual as it’s a word that’s not well used today.
Alan – followed suit filling his 1st role as Wizard of Ahs – Or
LIZARD of AHS as he joked. He had a great presence, and put some
humour in there as well!
No sooner had Bahman been inducted, than he tackled the role of
Timer – gaining confidence as the night went on – and executing
the MOST quiet switching of the lights to date!
Thinking on your feet is what Toast Masters is all about -
Spontaneity too, and Jim jumped in upholding both as he offered
to tell a joke in liuie of a formal Jokemaster for the night.
Another new inductee – Carla, assumed the role of Table Topics
Master, with great, creative questions…that took some serious
thought! She executed the role with perfection!
Rob as Table Topics Evaluator – was really impressive, yet
humble in his role and gave good points for improvement. Rob
left us with a delightful phrase - ‘Savour your departure’ - as
an encouraging reminder to pause and shake hands before you
leave the podium!!
To set the mood for the second half – Karen, as Toast Master had
researched the remedies topic well…and also injected some fun!
Dave’s speech – “Exploring unfamiliar scales” was out of this
world. The revelation on relative distances between the planets
was extremely interesting.
