THIS MUST HAVE BEEN A RECORD, I THINK? WE APPEARED TO HAVE AS
MANY GUESTS AS MEMBERS. We even had a visit from Hilary
Mackey and she said, “Wonderful to visit my old group as a
guest. I miss some members who have left the group, but it was
great to see people who’d been fairly new when I left, in
significant roles and doing very well in them.” Nice to see you
Hilary – you are always welcome!
Some comments from our “Highlights”: -- “I took note of the
club’s attention to time and support to individuals in their
goal to become more inclined to use their voice.” -- “Fabulous
to have guests from another club – welcome LOGOS! Speaking of
guests – Terence from Logos rendered the funniest TT I have
heard in a long time!” – “Carla’s Inspiration and use of the
poem – the road not taken. It was a creative reference to the
topic of travel.” – “TT – Diane’s visuals were a great idea.”
Our theme tonight was “World Travel” which seemed very
appropriate since we had guests travel from our sister Club
LOGOS.
Delene Bosch introduced our numerous guests.
Chairman Karen A. ran a smooth meeting and had some amusing
concepts on world travel. Karen also inducted our newest member
Alan B. Welcome Alan!
Wearing one of her many hats was Diane C. as Wordsmith – giving
us an appropriate word “discover”. Then Diane leisurely
fulfilled her role as TTM – giving us a very original and fun
way of participating in TT. We certainly had some amusing
outcomes. To top that she then was TT Evaluator – having
positive, helpful things to say – this girl is obviously
experienced. Way to go Diane.
Jumping right in right behind Diane was our Inspirator Carla W.
who shared the classic Frost poem – she encouraged us to reflect
on the avenues in our life less traveled – great to hear the
poem in its entirety. Carla was our Timer too – giving a very
concise description of her role and timing tools – she
definitely assisted the Chairman in running the meeting on
schedule.
Our Toastmaster, Jan F. told a great story about traveling by
working and the importance of “meeting people” not “seeing
things”.
Christina R. was our first speaker tonight and she certainly
brought home the importance of leaders/government setting an
example in respect to gambling and casinos.
Evaluating Christina’s speech was Barbara M. and came up with an
example of how to rearrange content for effectiveness in
fulfilling the speech objectives.
Second speaker Jane A. described the perils of white sugar and
emphasized moderation when using natural sweeteners as an
alternative.
Delene B. evaluated Jane’s speech and had great suggestions -- a
very educational evaluation in which we all got something out of
it.
General Evaluator, Dave A., gave a thoughtful and thorough
evaluation of the roles that hadn’t been evaluated.
A few members came from LOGOS Toastmasters because their meeting
was cancelled for Remembrance Day. We have an invitation from
LOGOS Toastmasters that when our club is not having a meeting on
a Monday then we can go to their meeting as they also hold them
on Monday evenings from 7:15pm – 9:30pm at Amica Seniors Centre,
Clyde Ave. & Taylor Way.
Our next Toastmasters meeting will be on November 17th, at
7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning
Through Fun and Friendship".
