HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

October 20th, 2008

WOW! SIX GUESTS AND TWO NEW MEMBERS … TOASTMASTERS 1085 IS MOVING RIGHT ALONG!

Comments of note from members and guests: Delene’s statement to Azeem about “A role might not be sexy but it is important.” – Dave’s introduction of Delene “Conceived and produced in South Africa just like our next speaker…” -- “Barbara’s TT were good, thought provoking and very creative” – “good to see our new members taking on roles so quickly!”

A special welcome to Alicia G. and Carla W. and kudos to you both for plunging right into roles as new members – that has to be the shortest time from induction to participation on record smiley

Our Chairman tonight was Dave A. who always runs a timely meeting and manages to put us at ease with his sense of humour. He gave an in-depth introduction of our theme of “Innovations” with mention of the “cell phone” and “water carrier”.

Wordsmith Alicia G. gave us a very appropriate word – creative – and somehow EVERYONE managed to use it – now that’s a first!

Our Wizard of Ahs Alicia G. kept us on our toes as she listened with an articulate ear to our numerous infractions – providing our piggy bank his delayed Thanksgiving meal.

Barbara M. was doing double-duty as: Jokemaster -- supplying us with a classic joke; and as TT Master -- giving relevant questions pertinent with our theme.

Robert G. did a great first-time TT Evaluator – noting things in the impromptu speeches that stood out for him.

Jan F. always uplifts us as Inspirator and with Remembrance Day fast approaching educated us on the history of dynamite.

Azeem A. as Timer assisted the Chairman by keeping our meeting on time and gave a thorough report at the end of the evening.

Jane A. as Toastmaster toasted to “The Innovation of Modern Man” – her role also encompassed the introduction of speakers and assisting in special room setup required by the speakers.

Christina R. gave a very interesting and informative speech on the history of the table setting. Christina looked calm up at the lectern and her topics are always well-researched.

Karen A. evaluated Christina’s speech, highlighting that this was her best to date. I agree with you Karen!

Diane C. gave a clear and instructive education session on the purposes of the two starter manuals used in Toastmasters, the Competent Communicator and Competent Leader. She encouraged us to set goals and track our progress and consult others for ideas by utilizing the charts that will be displayed on the inside of the storage door.

Delene B. was our general evaluator and managed to include everyone – diplomatically suggesting little tweeks that would improve the way we carry out our roles.

Thank you to Barbara M. for making our refreshment table look so appetizing.

Our next Toastmasters meeting will be on November 3rd, at 7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning Through Fun and Friendship".
