HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

February 2nd, 2009

“VOLUNTEERING: WHICH ORGANIZATION DO I CHOOSE” WAS OUR THEME TONIGHT. – Our Highlight comments included: “It was nice to see new guests again tonight” -- “Great work by our THREE guests who all got up for Table Topics!” -- “Pierre’s Table Topics Evaluation was full of Gallic charm and wisdom!” -- “Congratulations to Dave on his many roles – well executed!” -- “Rob’s Table Topic response was really inspiring and lots of fun – loved the idea!” -- “Enjoyed Jan’s speech titled “Gaza” and I learned about the history of Palestine.”

Despite last minute cancellations and changes to the Agenda it really was a fun and entertaining evening. Kudos to all who did double-duty!

Chairman Jane A. remained calm up at the lectern despite the many changes that occurred. She also gave different ideas of how to volunteer which set us up for the evening.

Dave A. as Wordsmith came up with a super word “benevolent” which was used frequently throughout the evening. Dave also managed the role as Timer and he certainly helped Jane keep the meeting running smoothly.

Our “Wizardress” of Ahs, Carla W. keeps this role positive, by creating a fun atmosphere while explaining her role at the start of the meeting and giving her report at the end of the meeting.

Ah! Now our Jokemaster tonight was Robert G. who immediately grabbed our curiosity by starting with a question. Robert, you do keep us guessing as to the direction your jokes are going in.

Diane C. inspired us with a quote -- “Don’t give from the top of the purse, but from the bottom of your heart.”

Table Topics Master’s role was covered by Karen A. who provided questions that were easy yet thought provoking.

Congratulations Pierre G. who did his first Table Topics evaluation – he modeled the speaker’s tone or intonation and gave useful suggestions for improvement.

Toastmaster Barbara M. gave a really nice historical reference to set up her toast to “Volunteering in our World Community.”

Jan F. did a speech that was very topical to the ongoing current events in Gaza. Wish they could apply your logic Jan – it certainly made sense to me!
Christina R. evaluated Jan’s speech and did a superb job as there was no specific project being addressed by him, so she followed the different skills learned in the CC manual.

General Evaluator Diane C. is a great listener, and always provides such specific and constructive feedback that is useful to everyone.

Our next Toastmasters meeting will be on Feb. 9th, at 7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning Through Fun and Friendship".
