HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

January 19th, 2009

OUR THEME TONIGHT “GREAT ONE-DAY TRIPS” – was a good theme and was one which speakers could easily respond to. There were five new guests which was great to see, with one of them even winning the award for Best Table Topics Speaker too!

Christina R. our Chairman tonight did a great job -- very well prepared – super description of her day trip (I wanted to be there) -- Christina warmly welcomed our numerous guests as well.

Jane A., as Wordsmith, selected an appropriate word-of-the-day “getaway” – she also had excellent listening skills by catching some interesting phrases.

First-time Wizardress of Ahs, Alicia G, did an admirable job listening for those “ums” and “ahs”.

Jokemaster, Jan F., always manages to tell great jokes – you said it was an old joke Jan, but I hadn’t heard it before.

Pierre G., as Inspirator, asked us to compare the two types of “trips” we take and how they criss-cross into each other.

Our Timer, Azeem A., was punctual with his time-keeping allowing the meeting to run on schedule.

Table Topics Master, Robert G, provided some fun, creative, and original topics for tonight, which made for a great table topics session!

Toastmaster, Barbara M., toasted to “The Adventure of One Day Travels” -- and gave an informative introduction to the forthcoming speakers.

Bahman S. gave his Icebreaker Speech – AND WOW NO NOTES!! Bahman was calm and confident up at the lectern. He gave us a glimpse into the difficulties he faced for over 8 years while trying to immigrate to Canada.

Carla W. gave a speech on the importance of doing one’s research before tackling any home renovations. Sounded like she was the voice of experience.

Karen A. evaluated Bahman’s speech and thanked him for sharing his eight year ordeal with immigration.

Diane C. evaluated Carla’s speech and made us aware that her evaluation was based on the objectives of the speech -- that being the organization.

General Evaluator, Dave A., always gives a thorough evaluation on our roles – and with minor changes how improvement could be made – valuable for all concerned – including the use of notes.

Our next Toastmasters meeting will be on January 26th, at 7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning Through Fun and Friendship".
