HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

January 12th, 2009

OUR THEME TONIGHT WAS “SCENES FROM MOVIES” – which probably contributed to some of the highlight comments: “A great sense of humour and fun through the meeting, including Diane’s educational session.” – “Loved the way Pierre acts out his presentations!” – “This was my first meeting for 2009 and I was really, really impressed with all of the speakers. Our new members really performed well.” – “Azeem – refreshingly different Table Topics evaluations – thanks!”

First-time Chairman was Barbara M. who ran a smooth meeting and had good bridging in between speakers – Well Done!

Kudos to Alan B. -- his first-time as Wizard of Ahs -- keeping us on our toes.

Our Jokemaster Pierre G. had a great joke and his delivery of the punch line was totally unexpected!

Jan F. always inspires us and explained how the disputes in the Middle East are influenced by the Koran.

Our meeting’s schedule was kept on-time with the assistance of our Timer, Alicia G.

The word-of-the-day “Spectacular” from our Wordsmith, Carla W., was used frequently. Carla highlighted some wonderful phrases used by speakers – not forgetting the few grammatical errors that slipped out too!

Table Topics Master, Jane A., used tough questions that were excellent for speakers to answer.

Robert G. who considered himself "dead" did an awesome job when responding to his Table Topic question by following a theme which had a good ending!

Azeem, as first-time Table Topics Evaluator, did an excellent job and explained his role nicely. Azeem, I loved your wonderful description of the anxiety one can feel before a TT session as “butterflies to find formation.”

Toastmaster, Karen A’s toast to “The World of Imagination” aptly tied-in to our theme.

Diane C. gave an excellent education session by providing some very useful points on how to evaluate a speech.

CONGRATULATIONS, Christina R., for completing her tenth and final speech out of the Competent Communicator Manual. Your speech was inspirational and you looked so confident and your delivery was BANG ON!

Delene B. evaluated Christina’s speech by highlighting what Christina’s objectives were and how she fulfilled them.

On a sad note, Delene B. who normally introduces guests at our meetings, will not be coming as often to Toastmasters – Delene your warmth and particular charm will be sorely missed.

Our General Evaluator, Jim S., always praises a job well done and makes suggestions on how we could improve whether it be in our delivery, body stance or some other minor adjustment.

Thanks to Jane A. for the post xmas treats that adorned our refreshment table.

Our next Toastmasters meeting will be on January 19th, at 7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning Through Fun and Friendship".
