GREAT THEME for this holiday Monday. THREE GUESTS TOO! With this
recent but very brief spell of warmer weather there was
certainly a fragrant overtone to the evening.
We had an amazing cast of players --- doing double duty was the
amazing Jan K. who as Chair, opened with the admission that
music doesn’t play a huge role in her life but that it is
uplifting -- and as Toast Master I loved her research into music
appreciation – “The celestial art.”
Steve Z. had a great word fragrant – very appealing to our
senses -- which I was surprised wasn’t used that much.
Our Jokemaster Diane C. is a great story teller – “of cowboys
and bikers” and delivered the punch line to perfection.
Hilary M. stood in as Inspirator for Jan F. who was waylaid by
an accident. She inspired us with words of praise for Jan and
his great appreciation of all things musical, including the
music that surrounds us in our daily lives. Hilary also took the
opportunity to bid the club good-buy as she relocates to
Victoria. Good-luck Hilary! We’ll miss you.
Our Wizardress of Ahs Karen A. had good humour and delivered her
meticulous report at the end of the evening.
What super topics from yet another person on double-duty, Table
Topics Master Diane C. – she elicited great and varied responses
from the group.
Dave A. – with great gestures – responded with a “pro” vote to
the question “should downloading of music be legal?”
“Do you agree or disagree with parental advisory”? was the
question posed to Jennifer S. She used great understated humour
– in referring to her children “We were never going to spank
them” – “They’re not in jail.”
Steve Z. confidently stepped up to the lectern and followed
protocol when answering “What does classical music do for you?”
Most definitely “John Lennon” was the response by Albert L. to
his question, “Of all past musicians, who would you like to come
back?”
Barbara M.’s question was double-barreled “Do you go to
concerts?” and “Should we pay big bucks for concerts?” But that
didn’t deter her as she responded with poise and confidently
stood beside the lectern.
Our “All American Girl” Jan K.’ emphatically said “BORN IN THE
USA by Bruce Springsteen,” when responding to her question,
“What would your personal anthem be?”
Kate E. as Table Topics Evaluator gave warm praise and
constructive suggestions in her evaluation of the speakers for
TT.
Jan K. as Toastmaster spoke of a link between music and
mathematics – her toast “To Music Through Time” was very apt!
Jennifer S. gave an informative and organized speech on
“Anti-money Laundering” – she had a clear message with
supporting materials.
Kate E. evaluated Jennifer’s S.’s speech: “Ah, the fragrance of
money!” and “Wow: glad I’m not a PEP or a PEPlet!”
“Let’s Get Dirty” was the title of Karen A.’s speech – this
informative talk was on sustainable housing – using sand, clay,
straw and/or recycled materials. I think this is something of
the future!
Dave A evaluated Karen A.’s speech with warmth and a positive
tone – good constructive and instructive comments – great use of
specific examples.
Our General Evaluator Jane A. gave a good brief summary of her
role for our guests. For the benefit to those who will hold
certain roles in the future, her evaluation included specific
and positive comments of things well-done.
Our next Toastmasters meeting will be Monday, May 26th, at
7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning
Through Fun and Friendship".
