WHAT A SERENDIPITOUS EVENING! Something was sure in the air –
which certainly took any tension that may have been present out
-- for a fun evening!
First-time Chair Jane A. gave great word pictures in her
introduction to our theme miniature. An unintentionally long
pause after her opening statement, evoked a comical picture of
her not-so-miniature stature. Hmmm -- pauses placed
appropriately are something we all need to work on – wouldn’t
you agree!
Li-Ying K. as usual warmly introduced our guest.
Jennifer S. as Wordsmith explained the role well, and her
fabulous word-of-the-evening serendipity was used several times.
Our Jokemaster (and he is a master) Jan F. always makes us
chuckle – tonight was no different with the International
Congress about the elephant.
First-time Wizard of Ahs, Steve Z. had good use of humour in his
introduction, and did a commendable job in catching our slips.
Christina R. gave a great introduction to her role as Timer.
Despite both of her stopwatches running out of power, her report
for TT was excellent and was accompanied with a concise re-cap
of each speaker’s topic, along with their times.
The Table Topics Master for the evening was Kate E. and she
diligently didn’t take any mini-naps as she contemplated who her
next victims would be.
Li-Ying K.’s response to “Honey, I shrank the kids” – with “Am I
not miniature enough already”.
Christina R. would like to shrink/shorten the time in her car –
her Volvo.
In response to the question “Are children’s toys of today
better, as good as, or worse than the toys we played with.”
Karen A. spoke of how all children’s toys today are now made of
plastic. As a child she could remember a big Barbie house with
assorted wooden pieces of furniture that could actually be used
and placed inside each room.
Jan F.’s question of “How is nano-technology going to shape our
future?” – responded with the use of humour and expertise from a
man who is enthralled with progress of science.
The question “What would you do if you were told that your child
had extraordinary talents? Our guest Albert L. said he would
immerse a child in the realm in which they were talented.
Jim S. would up the price of gas to $3/litre, this in response
to “How to convince a family to trade in their mini van for a
mini car.”
Jennifer S. felt that children are cute because they don’t speak
– her answer to “Why do you think human’s seem to find small
things “cute”?
Steve Z.’s question of “Are small details more important than
big details?” -- spoke of one’s career and war details.
Tabletopics Evaluator Diane C. gave a very lively and emphatic
evaluation – good specific references to quotes from people’s
speech’s – she has an excellent teaching method in her
evaluations and constructive comments.
Ahhhh! Our Toastmaster Michelle F. and her toast to “The little
things that mean so much.” -- they’re necessary and important
but often overlooked.
Dave A.’s speech – On the rooftop of the world – gave a dramatic
and suspenseful rendition of his bike trip across Tibet – and of
his too many close calls with the Tibetan police.
Jim S. evaluated Dave A.’s speech in an organized manner which
addressed the speeches goals – good use of specific examples
from Dave’s speech.
To bring her reaction to the overall evening was General
Evaluator, Karen A. She gave a positive summary with encouraging
words to all people with roles. Welcome back Karen!
Our next Toastmasters meeting will be Monday, May 19th, at
7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning
Through Fun and Friendship".
