HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

September 24th, 2007

“A friendly, brisk, fun, informative meeting – what more could you want?” asks a guest regarding our Open House meeting this evening. “We had a fabulous number of guests!” “A fun night as usual. A very auspicious evening indeed.”

“Li Ying opened the meeting which was themed ‘Silver Linings’ with the song ‘Always Look On The Bright Side of Life’, charging the atmosphere with positive vibes.” “Her humour and enthusiasm were invigorating and inspiring! Great Chairmanship for this special meeting. Her introductions of each of us were warm, and liberally sprinkled with humour – so irreplaceable, Li Ying smiley

“Atta was very clear in his instructions as Wordsmith, and his word ‘Auspicious’ worked well with the theme.” “Great use of humility and humour. In his report his humour glistened: I admire your comic pauses, Atta!”

“Hilary’s well-chosen Inspiration perfectly suited the Open House and the number of guests who had come to check us out. I loved her inspirational encouragement to be courageous and attack the fear of public speaking.” “How absolutely ideal – personal testimonials from us on ‘what Toastmasters has done for me’, to inspire guests and members alike. Brilliant!” “Wonderful to feel how relaxed I am beginning to feel speaking in front of our group, and great to be able to share that in an Inspiration with so many guests.”

“Jessica C. took us back to the wonderful world of Oz - Dorothy, Toto, et al, when she playfully acknowledged our play on words for her title-of-the-evening: Wizard of Ahs!” “Her instructions were clear and concise. Her report was wonderfully ‘ruthless, but the numbers don’t lie’.”

“Pam’s explanation as Timer was very explicit – perfect for the sake of all our guests, who may not have seen public speaking ‘traffic lights’ before.”

“I adored Jan K.’s creative and original Table Topics based on photo images.” “The topics were fun and creative; made it ‘easy’ to speak and fun to listen to.” “Nice to see so many guests willing to participate!” “They stepped up so admirably!” “Kate’s ‘multiple heads’ image will stick with me for a while!” “Her Topic speech was brilliant – I’m not sold yet, though!” “Loved Jan F.’s vocal variety in describing why we should live in a swamp. He held us captivated with his tales of mythical creatures.” “It was great! I love how he brings Norway into many of his speeches!” “Laughed at Pam’s titillating invitation to come see the ‘magnificent specimens of human beings’ atop the Matterhorn.” “Suzanne’s Table Topic speech was hilarious!” “I was truly captivated by her guided tour of Brittany Spears’ trailer park.” “Michelle’s encouragement to move to the Grand Canyon ‘because you’ll have lots of visitors – some even bearing gifts!’ was quite a sales job!!” “Christina’s ironic advertisement of the exercise benefits and the ‘lookouts’ and ‘vistas’ of buying a condo in a slum area made me smile. What a confident and well-organized delivery! smiley” Kate and our guest, Suzanne, tied for the prized Best Table Topic ribbon this time. “Thank you, Dave, for working your usual magic with the Table Topic evaluations. He waves his magic wand generously and constructively. Thank you for making us sparkle!”

“Really enjoyed what I learned from Jill’s inspiring thoughts as Toastmaster: ie. the silver-lined ferns in New Zealand, and her enticement to also always look to the beauty in ‘the other side of the sky’ at sunset.” “Her array of silver linings coated us in appreciation of the small, auspicious events in life.”

“Wow! What a speech, Delene! You effectively took us from culture and belief, storytelling, and the imparting of knowledge. It was wonderful!!” “’Knowledge exists to be imparted.’ True words that were a Highlight in my evening.” Plaudits too, for Karen, Delene’s Speech Evaluator: “Couldn’t help but love Karen’s spontaneous link between the word Delene based her speech on and Susan Aglukark’s song.” “The word ‘osseum’ – loved it!! Susan Aglukark. She is First Nations and she has a song with that title.”

Best Evaluator ribbon went to Jim. “His General Evaluation was a Highlight for me: his humour and interactive approach were a superb finish to the evening!”

We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout of guests for our fall Open House, Now that they have seen how we typically spend our evenings, we hope they will come back next Monday October 1st to watch our club Humorous Speech Contest and Table Topics Contest. This is always a fun event – the bigger the audience the better. We always welcome everyone to come check us out on Monday nights. smiley
