WOW, first-time Chairman Christina R.’s questions revealed how
many amazing athletes we have in our midst! Very inspiring!
Christina R., exercised a great command of the lectern – she was
well-prepared, enthusiastic and poised tonight. She welcomed us
to TM with “The Perfect Workout -- an evening of mental
gymnastics.”
Guests were warmly introduced by Li-Ying K.
It is always a pleasure to welcome new members to the club. In a
clear and efficient manner Jim S. inducted David J. as our
newest member of 1085. Welcome David!
Our first-time Wordsmith was Jim S. who supplied an appropriate
word for those of us who were overworked with “exhaustion”.
I was very impressed with our new inductee tonight and
Inspirator David J. -- who has a great presence at the lectern
and uses great vocal variety. His thought provoking quote “Enjoy
this moment, for this moment is your life,” certainly puts life
into perspective.
Jennifer S. the Wizardress of Ahs, had fine-tuned her listening
skills from an ah-filled work meeting. So she caught a lot of us
using those dastardly filler words from the round robin session
at the end of the evening.
Diane C. managed to finally grab the elusive role as Timer which
she explained with clear instructions to members and guests.
As Jokemaster, Jan F. supplied a quote from Romeo Dallaire on
the “importance of a sense of humour to one’s survival.” How
True!
First-time Table Topics Master, Jane A. used interesting topics
that garnered a great variety of responses.
Michelle F. humorously told us the importance of knowing the
difference in speed levels 1 thru 6 when using treadmill
equipment, when she recollected a situation where it would have
been better to exercise caution.
Jan F. broke out into song when asked what the aroma of a red
rose brought to mind.
The sound of a dentist’s drill evoked in Dave J.’s memory a tale
of dental horror following a face-first motorbike accident
resulting in “wolverine teeth.” YIKES!
When responding to the possible benefits of hiring a personal
trainer for your infant -- Kate E. said “Go ahead: hire a
personal trainer”… “let them worry about it.”
The sound of crickets brought a terrifying response from Jan K.
“Oh the horrors of camping, the horror of it!”
Table Topics Evaluator was Hilary M. who really has a great use
of humour despite her absence over the past couple of months --
she hasn’t lost her touch or her wonderful analytical eye --
gave great individual feedback. Hilary mentions, as her life has
taken her to Victoria since her recent marriage, it is wonderful
to come for an evening and find that the club has attracted so
many new and talented and improved members.
Our Toastmaster for the evening was Jessica C. who was very
well-prepared for her role. Her list of all the things that
exercise can improve including balance, and a positive feeling
of well-being were very persuasive! She warmly introduction our
guest speaker James W. and his award winning speech “Cycle of
Hope”. Great instructions for the round robin – good
facilitation. James delivered an extremely powerful speech
describing his participation in a ride across Canada to raise
money for Parkinsons. GOOD LUCK James!
General Evaluator, Yi-Ling K. gave a dynamic review of the
meeting’s successes! Warm praise for those in first-time roles!
She also showed much appreciation to the humour in our meeting.
Our next Toastmasters meeting will be Monday, April 21st, at
7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning
Through Fun and Friendship".
