Have Gun Will Travel! Well we certainly had our guns a-blazing
tonight to entertain FIVE guests…word travels fast as to how
great Toastmasters 1085 is.
Jane A. started with a great personal introduction to our Chair
this evening Delene B.
Delene B. gave us a calm and contemplative exploration of the
theme for the evening – Travels. As Chair, Delene always manages
to warmly welcome all speakers to the lectern with great
introductions.
Dave A. as Wordsmith had us worried as his travels started in
the direction of Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia … he
thankfully changed direction and went with a wonderfully fitting
word wanderlust.
Jokemaster Dave S. gave us a personal twist with his always
great ability as a consummate storyteller and set the scene for
that great assortment of scones.
As Inspirator, Jan F. inspired us to help him successfully hear
what is being said throughout the evening with the use of his FM
hearing device.
First-time Wizardress of Ahs Jennifer S. slipped easily into the
role with a script generously supplied by Jim S.
Kate E. seems to journey comfortably into any role as she
demonstrated tonight as Timer. Always on her toes … even managed
to calmly grant Jim S. an extension in the amount of time
allowed in his role as Tabletopics Evaluator of nine speakers.
Tabletopics Master Jessica C. gave us fun topics that everyone
enjoyed answering … it was great when she reminded us to use the
word of the evening. Jessica’s questions were directed to the
following:
Dave A. gave a confident, clear and interesting response to:-
Where would your wanderlust take you on a magic carpet.
Dave S. humourously responded that the London sewers should be
included:- as one of the 7 Wonders of Industrial World.
Christina R. showed us the wonder of the world to have so much
moisture when responding to:- How would you sell Vancouver’s
rain and cloudiness?
Jennifer S. said she felt it was difficult for everyone, not
only women when answering:- Would you agree or disagree that air
travel has been made more difficult for women?
Jan K. had second thoughts when reliving her tale of travelling
with her sisters in beautiful B.C. Her response to:- Never go on
trips with anyone you do not love.
Jan F. listed the qualities of his perfect woman companion when
responding to:- Invent the perfect travelling companion. Ahhhh
Jan if only there were such a woman
Diane C. felt that change would be inevitable based on your
pocketbook, a 16 person bedroom with hairy pillows and a place
alone for her toothbrush. Her reply to:- Do you think your
preferred travelling style changes with time?
Li-Ying K. was not for an oversized suitcase:- Advice for
Travelling Alone.
Dave (a guest) responded with his appreciation of the simple
things in life to:- A Man Travels the World in Search of What he
Needs and Returns Home to Find it”.
Jim S. as Tabletopics Evaluator had a monumental job of
evaluating 9 speakers. He showed his appreciation of everyone’s
following protocol, had good suggestions and specific examples
for each individual. Most enjoyable was his physical mimicry of
people’s leaning and wandering foibles.
Our Toastmaster Li-Ying K. and her toast “to precious memories”
… getting straight A’s on report cards … to changing diapers for
the first time.
Jane A.’s speech on “What is meant by the Luck of the Irish?”
was an interesting topic … I like the research that went into
her speech … loved her hat.
Christina R. evaluated Jane’s speech and had good specific
examples of the positive elements and great useful suggestions.
A warm and effervescent Diane C. was our General Evaluator …
great use of humour, and inclusive of all present, including
guests … members were educated about roles they may take on as
newbies in the future.
Our next Toastmasters meeting will be Monday, April 14th, at
7:15pm in our regular location. Come join us in "Learning
Through Fun and Friendship".
