HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

September 17th, 2007

“A totally enlightening meeting.” “Wonderful full house! Great to see so many guests and three of them returning for the second time,”…“this is very encouraging so early in the season.” “The growth of this club proves the quality of our meetings.”

“Jim was, once again, an excellent Chairman – upbeat, enthusiastic, clear, and as always ..great humour.” “A lighthearted approach to the theme, ‘light’.” “He runs a meeting that rivals Swiss efficiency. Humour intact! Bravo!”

“Jan K.’s well chosen Word of the Evening was so well used that it helped illuminate the meeting and undoubtedly set a new club record smiley” “So great to have her back!”

“Money makes the world go around…Good joke Jan F!”
“Jessica C.’s sunny Inspiration was a Highlight.” “I really liked her quote: ‘Carry some of summer’s sunlight with us into (our Vancouver) winter.’ Sunlight has the power to illuminate. It has a positive power over us. A very timely Inspiration.”

“Delene’s Wizard of Ahs performance was an especially refreshing one.” “Great opening dramatization demonstrating her role!” “Loved her humour: ie. ‘The hour has come to add up your transgressions.’ smiley

“Atta’s irrepressible humour made me giggle! What a Timer!”

“The Table Topics session was tons of fun.” “The topics were very intelligent and gave all of the Speakers (including 3 of the guests!) a chance to share.” “Some of the topics made people think a bit, but they all attacked their theme well.” “I particularly liked Jessica C.’s ‘too true’ topic highlighting the challenges of group projects.” There was a tie for Best Table Topic Speaker between Jan K. (who is obviously still quick thinking on her feet even after a long break!) and Hilary (who has now won this honourable achievement two weeks in a row!). “Karen’s astute Table Topic Evaluations of all 9 participants were very well done.”

“Li Ying’s dynamic delivery of her Toast and her natural use of humour were exceptional. Boy, does she know how to make us laugh! She also used her role as Toastmaster to accomplish a special manual project. In this regard, she gave herself an excellent self-introduction smiley” “Both Speakers presented themselves very well.” “I liked Jill’s evaluation of Li Ying’s special project ‘Introduce the Speaker’. It involved a lot of thought and good suggestions.” “I liked the honesty in her evaluation, admitting the uniqueness and therefore difficulty of evaluating such a different kind of speech. She is a good role model for us all: We don’t have to know everything in order to attack a role with excellence and enthusiasm.”

“Leila’s Ice Breaker speech was very impressive. No notes, very relaxed, and very natural. I am very much looking forward to her future speeches.” “I really enjoyed her Ice Breaker, and her wonderful sense of humour. She pulled at my heart-strings with her disappointment at being denied jobs because she was ‘overqualified’.” “This was a fabulous speech – First speech, no notes, and very confident up there!” “Pam’s evaluation of Leila was great; good points.” “The personal and personable approach to her evaluation was highlighted by her enthusiastic gestures.”

“Dave S. gave a comprehensive review of the meeting. He was genial, jovial, and relaxed!” “He makes us smile.” “He gave a very entertaining General Evaluation.” “It was humorous, and touching, and very instructive.” “I was particularly glad that he acknowledged the passing of our late member, Stuart Manning. And also glad of the valued advice he gave to our new incoming Club Officers that they be sure not to lose sight of tradition while guiding and mentoring our club.” “Thanks, Dave, for readjusting our halos!” There was a tie for Best Evaluator, too, bestowed upon Dave S. and Pam.

“Thank you fellow Toastmasters for lighting up my Monday and making me laugh!”

Our Open House will be next Monday September 24th. Everyone is welcome to join us in “Learning Through Fun and Friendship”. We are hoping to see many more guests smiley. The food is always better and the Break is longer on these special nights so that we have a chance to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. See you there!
