Many thanks to all of you who contributed to the Highlights this
week. Your input is insightful and enlightening. Here they are:
“This meeting was very enjoyable. Everyone participated
enthusiastically and conscientiously! We had a number of guests,
also, which is always a positive sign. People had different,
intriguing perspectives. An excellent meeting!”
“I really enjoyed the meeting. Both of the speeches were
interesting and informative. I found the climate very friendly.”
“Good crowd, even with so many members away.”
“Great turnout for the meeting regardless of the weather! Three
guests…Wow!”
The Table Topics session once again hit the top of the charts:
“Ruth Sol’s Table Topics were excellent. The Speakers could
really talk on the topic they were given.”
“A wonderful Table Topic session on the theme of “Innovation”.
“Good and interesting Table Topics session.”
“Maxine Erskin’s performance in Table Topics was definitely a
Highlight.”
“Maxine’s Palm Pilot was a Highlight for me – amazing
performance by a guest.”
Li Ying Kao won the Best Table Topic Speaker award with her
humorous debate on “What is the greatest danger: That we aim too
high and miss it, or that we aim too low and reach it?”
We were fortunate to have two great speeches. Our member,
Neville Cohen, is also the Area Governor for our area this year
(overseeing a number of clubs but belonging to ours). He
attended this particular meeting in an official capacity, and
his informative presentation (a project from the Speaking to
Inform manual) explained the history and make-up of the
Toastmasters Organization, as well as where our club and we as
members fit into this. Jill McCormick’s was an inspiring
oratorical reading from the Interpretive Reading manual. She
chose Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream”.
“I liked both speeches, especially Neville Cohen’s, in which
there were educational elements about the history of our great
organization. The theme was very appropriate and handled
expertly.”
“Neville’s explanation of Toastmasters was good!”
Then there was Neville’s innovative visual aid which “defied
gravity and made an Organization Chart interesting!”
“Jill’s choice of speech was a Highlight for me. She could
hardly have picked a more challenging piece but it was a
valuable learning experience.”
“The speech given by Jill was a Highlight. I have never heard it
before and I thought she did a good job.”
Some of the Evaluators were in for accolades, too:
“I liked Li Ying’s and Dave Stewart’s evaluations; good
‘growing’ info.”
“I really enjoyed hearing the final evaluation by Dave Stewart.”
“Dave’s general evaluation was comprehensive and used the
‘sandwich technique’ very well!” Which no doubt contributed to
his having been awarded the Best Evaluator award of the evening
Also rewarded:
“I liked (in the introduction to Ruth) her idea of water
consumption – that’s a great idea.” Ruth’s family sets a timer
for their showers and it has really made a difference in their
bills
“I would like to congratulate Jim Sinclair on his first time in
the role of Chairman. He was well prepared, confident, and fun!”
“Jim’s wit! was a Highlight for me.”
“I found Kate Elliott’s inspiration truly innovative and showed
a lot of insight and ingenuity.”
“Jessica Li’s joke was an excellent example of how a good joke
should be told. Her pauses and timing were exquisite!”
And there you have it – from the perspectives of the people who
were there
Please join us next week for another memorable experience. The
Theme for this
meeting will be “Adversity”. Guests are Always Welcome – the
more the merrier!
