What a night! The Table Topics Contest filled the first half of
the meeting, and two Speakers entertained us for the second.
Our Division Governor, Ted Armitage, put us in the ‘contest
spirit’ with a visually memorable Inspiration describing “The
Power of the Mind”.
The Judges must have been hard-pressed to choose the best Table
Topic Speaker among our quick-thinking, well spoken, six
contestants: Dave Stewart, Jim Sinclair, Kate Elliott, Li Ying
Kao, Stuart Manning, and Wendy Trusler. The topic posed to them
was:
“With only three months left in 2006, what are your priorities
for the remainder of the year?”
All the answers varied greatly and ranged from thoughtful to
humorous and everything in between. Congratulations to the
winners:
First Place–Kate Elliott, Second Place–Jim Sinclair, and Third
Place–Dave Stewart.
Then came two ‘formal’ speeches from projects in our manuals:
First up was a brand new speaker, Jessica Li, who described how
important friendships are in her life, and encouraged us to
value ours. Her evaluator, Neville Cohen, expressed delight at
how much more ‘vibrant and verbal’ she has become since she
first joined the club.
Then, an experienced Guest Speaker, Cathy Russell, ended our
evening with a wonderfully humorous speech describing her
criteria for judges recruiting for the Olympics. Her personal
Olympic experiences left us laughing all the way home.
What a night
Please note that there will be no meeting on Thanksgiving Monday
October 9th.
The next meeting will be our Open House Night on Oct. 16. We are
hoping we will have many guests join us that night for another
meeting of fun, friendship, and better-than-usual refreshments
in their honour.
