HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

April 16th, 2007

“Li Ying ran a very upbeat meeting.” In fact, “upbeat” was used more than once to describe this “relaxed, upbeat atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be in a great mood, which led to lots of humour!” “A very fun, energetic meeting; many teaching and touching moments, also.” “I liked Li Ying’s research into what one educational website said about the ingredients of co-operation, but I especially enjoyed her detailed explanation showing how our club members demonstrate each one of those ingredients on Monday nights.”

“I was impressed with Nahid’s Introduction of the Chairman. She had obviously been in touch with Li Ying to get some background information, and she also worked within the theme (Co-operation).”

“Anne Marie’s Inspiration, the result of a hair-raising experience, in which she encouraged us not to wait to have fun in our lives, was a timely highlight for me.” “Her reminder that we are all mortal and we should make the most of every day was memorable.” “This Inspiration was ‘deep down’ and kept the audience thinking.”

“Jan’s Joke, told by an adept storyteller with perfect comic timing, was a Highlight.”

The Highlight that absolutely everyone mentioned was the Table Topics session:
“Great Table Topics – any guests would have been wowed by how good everyone was.” “Jill’s Table topics were really fun. Everyone seemed to rise to the challenges. I was particularly impressed with our new members.” “This Table Topics session was a hit!” “Excellent Table Topics session tonight with highly energetic speakers. You could tell because the responses were so clearly presented; everyone seemed very connected to their topic.” “Great session well prepared by Table Topics Master. Exceptional answers to interesting questions by all.” “I was really pleased with every response to the Table Topics. Don’s rebuttal was a great example.” “I really enjoyed the lively debate stimulated by Hilary’s thoughtful and passionate response to her Table Topic. Don’s rebuttal provided humour, and also set an example for those of us ‘newbies’ who were unaware that rebuttals are a Table Topic option.” “Wendy’s Topic about qualities of a good team leader, especially the part about keeping open lines of communication between the different task members, was right on the money.” “I really enjoyed Nahid’s informative and confident Table Topic speech about how fortunate she is to have a ‘golden’ husband!” “Jan’s Table Topic offered us some sage advice: to find tolerance by seeking common ground.” “I always learn something from Elma’s speeches, and her topic tonight (about the value of surrounding yourself with a co-operative team of experts when you’re looking at buying property) was no different.” “Jim’s characteristic humour in his topic about the joys of dog-washing was highly enjoyable.” “Jill obviously put a lot of thought into these topics ad deftly matched them to people well-qualified to respond to them. The replies supplied food for thought for all of us!”

“Ruth’s Evaluation of the Table Topics speakers was timely, gave great criticism and suggestions. Her voice was clear and she involved the whole audience.” “Her evaluation was thorough and fun. She had excellent comments for all the contestants and really showed off her listening skills.” “So true: Ruth, at the conclusion of her Table Topics Evaluation, said: ‘Aren’t we good?!!”

“Don’s Toast to teamwork seemed perfect to describe how the meeting went.” “His timely use of the Sun Run as an event which could not take place without the co-operation of a variety of people was an excellent lead-in to his Toast.”
“I really enjoyed Neville’s storytelling voice.” “Neville’s descriptive gestures were the key enhancing factor in his story.”
“Elena’s amazing job explaining ‘the prisoner’s dilemma’ ((to inspire about co-operation) was a Highlight.” “Toastmasters teaches so much more than merely speaking skills. Through our speech presentations, we share our knowledge and expertise in different fields with each other. Elena’s speech was a perfect example of this phenomena: I left this evening having learned some valuable lessons from her explanation of “The Prisoner’s Dilemma”. Well-explained, and very thought-provoking! – as well as a persuasive argument for co-operation and compromise!”

“In his General Evaluation, Jim’s recap of the evening was humorous and instructional.” “His sense of humour even in this more serious role is, as always, a fabulous way to end the evening. Thanks for the apt insights and abundant chuckles. Wit and wisdom = synergy!”

Our next meeting will be April 23rd. The theme will be ‘procrastination’. As usual, guests are always welcome.
