HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

April 2nd, 2007

“There was a lot of humour tonight which made for a fun, relaxed evening.” “We had excellent turnout!” “It was such a pleasure to induct a new member tonight.”

“It was a dangerous decision allowing Dave S. to take the reins of the meeting by playing the part of Chairman. Taking full liberty of the moment, Dave ran a lively meeting and provided some fun and insightful information about some of the difficult decisions made by a few of our members.” “He truly set the tone for how the meeting proceeded.” “He was a relaxed and jovial host.” “Marvellous bridging” and “great chairmanship!” “Excellent chairing. As Chairman, he establishes such a relaxed yet solid scaffolding for the rest of us to stand on with confidence.”

“Stuart’s word [resolve] and detailed description of related word options were a highlight.” “I really enjoyed him as Wordsmith.” “He gave a very detailed and thorough Wordsmith report, picking up on a variety of word imagery and grammar usage.” “Short and succinct introductions by Elena [timer] and Kate[Wizard of Ahs].” “Jill’s Joke was enthusiastically told with great gestures.”

“Christine delivered an excellent, thoughtful and poignant inspiration that reinforced the meeting’s theme. Her inspiration made us reflect on the decision-making process in our lives.” “Her inspiration was one of the best I’ve heard for a long time -- really thought-provoking.” “She made the audience think hard.” “This inspiration was exceptionally moving. Well done!”

“Jan was a superb Table Topics Master.” “His questions were very well selected and interesting. He used excellent bridging between speakers.” “He made us think hard! Everybody had fun!” “His wise words before the Table Topics session really benefited the audience, and his own bridging was full of humour.” “Fantastic session!”

“Karen’s Table Topic speech was a highlight!” “She spoke with considerable ease and effectiveness. She has a natural grounded presence.” “I liked Dave F’s suggestion in his Table Topic that people should ‘work in their own communities’ to alleviate traffic congestion.” “Nahid’s humour was a Table Topic highlight for me.” Of Kate’s winning Table Topics speech: “Kate gave me one of her best performances yet; very composed in her delivery of a topic clearly close to her heart.”

“Hilary’s evaluation was very thorough and showed a relaxed, professional manner.” “In her evaluation of the Table Topics, she used excellent humour and bridging between comments on the participants.” Hilary won best evaluator of the evening.

“As Toastmaster, Neville was in his element, and gave a good concise toast.” “His observations about the dangers of procrastination in decision-making were a highlight for me. Very apt!” “Tonight, we had two great speeches by two skilled speakers. We could all learn a lot from both of them.” “Both speeches were well-prepared, and provided excellent visuals.”

“Anne Marie’s speech on the Alexander Technique was an excellent pick for Project #5”, in which speakers have to use their body to enhance their speech. “Her body motion was powerful and dynamic, as befitting the topic.” “Her presentation was a lesson for everyone to learn. Her acting skills enhanced her speech.” “Excellent insights into posture and the way it affects us and those around us.” “I found Anne Marie’s speech very interesting, as I tend to slouch over.” “Well presented and memorable.” “An intriguing, entertaining and memorable speech by Anne Marie!”

“Jim’s description of ski technology was timely and very informative.” “His speech was great! I learned something in a simple manner. He is becoming a great versatile speaker.” “His visual aids were a highlight!” “I especially liked the title of Jim’s speech: ‘Sleek, fast and sexy’!”

“Don’s evaluation of Anne Marie’s speech was professionally done, and covered all the essentials.” “Li-Ying is obviously a seasoned veteran, and her evaluation [of Jim’s speech] made excellent, skilled and self-assured use of the sandwich technique.” “Loved Li-Ying’s use of humour in her evaluation.” “Pam’s general evaluation was thorough and comprehensive.”

Neville made a generous gesture of presenting Kate with a pin and book to congratulate her on her second-place finish as speech evaluator at the Division competition last weekend. In his presentation, he emphasized what a wonderful and valuable experience it is for Toastmasters to participate in club competitions.

Come join us for a stimulating evening of informative entertainment. Our next scheduled meeting if Monday, April 16. All guests are most welcome!
