HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

February 19th, 2007

“We had a nice turnout for our auspicious meeting celebrating the “Year of the Pig”. Among the 20 attendees there were 5 guests, two of them returning for the third time.” “I love all of my Toastmaster meetings, but tonight just felt extra wonderful.” “Loved the energy and humour.” Among the 20 attendees there were five guests. Here are some of their comments: “I felt welcome; appreciated the organization of the meeting and the fact that it kept on time.” “It is a friendly club – many people introduced themselves to me and chatted. The meeting was efficiently run but in a very friendly manner. Good energy in the group – good variety of skill levels – useful for learning.” “The Theme was original and gave some structure and coherence to the meeting.”

“Don controlled the meeting very well.” “Leading by example is how a meeting should always be MC’d.” “He had great introductions, having researched individual zodiac characteristics fitting each of his participants.” “Loved his bridging and the scaffolding of the meeting he ran.” “His ease and humour as Chairman is entertaining and relaxing”, and “his bridging was second to none.”

Almost everyone had something to say about the Table Topics session tonight. Hilary, herself, commented on the satisfaction of “being able to do a new role with more challenge, requiring preparation.” “Congratulations to Hilary for her first time hosting this session.” “She was an excellent Table Topic Master, well prepared and comfortably confident in her role. She gave clear descriptions of her topics, and the selection was challenging but not overwhelming.” “She had humour and panache, good topics, and excellent bridging,” “… bridging which exhibited a finesse not often seen in such a new member.” “She was quick to pick up Jan’s use of ‘red’ and the twist he put on it to be able to tell his own story.” “She had a good choice of open-ended topics.”

“The Table Topic speakers were exceptionally good – especially Pam, Jim, Kate, and Aggie.” (Kate won the coveted Best Speaker ribbon this time.) “I especially liked Jim’s ‘red-neck’, hilarious-as-usual, incredibly humorous and unexpected Table Topic speech!” “Kate’s response to ‘what wealth means to her’ was excellent.” “Jan delighted us with another story, this time it had a twist to beat all twists … about the kiss on a pig’s hind end!” “I admire Christine’s ability to address a Table Topic both specifically and then broadly, bringing it around to global values. She manages to make things both personal and universal.” “Excellent to see two of our guests deal with Table Topics not only confidently but also competently.” “Tanya’s excellent speech had humour, confidence, and sparkle, when she addressed the question of the negatives of astrology in her life.” “We had a very fun and high-quality Table Topics session. I really wanted to vote in Everyone for the Best Table Topic Speaker!”

“Li Ying is not afraid to help even our most experienced speakers – she has a suggestion for everyone. All speakers get the same treatment and consideration - nobody feels they are being singled out.” “The incisive observations in her enthusiastic Table Topic Evaluations were most decidedly a Highlight.”

“As Toastmaster, Omar once again did a great job with good humour. This humour was also incorporated into his professional handling of the music from the church with which he momentarily found himself competing to be heard.” “Wonderful humour in distinguishing between an ‘ox person’ and a ‘cow person’ smiley “The commentary for his Toast was thoughtful and clear.” “His bridging was well done, ie. thanking Dave F. with some cogent comments.” “He was smiling, engaging … he was himself.”

“The best Highlight was Dave F.’s fabulously entertaining speech: “Let’s Go Fly a Kite.” “He was awesome – no notes, funny, a well done #2 speech.”
“Karen gave a good evaluation, especially noting specific examples of improvements from Dave’s last speech. She has a good memory and put thought and care into her preparation.” “She projected sincerity and obviously enjoyed the speech.”

“Dave S. is my hero. His evaluations never fail to simultaneously instruct and uplift.” “As always, I loved Dave’s ease and humour as General Evaluator: wise and all-seeing.” And ‘all winning’ – He was voted Best Evaluator of the evening.

The Highlighted comments for the more minor role players round out this edition:
“I liked Christine’s showing off our thematic “golden piggy” bank at the lectern – she had excellent use of humour, and scare tactics!!”…even though “it pained her greatly to fine everybody!” “Wendy’s listening skill as Ah Counter was incredible.”
“I really liked her clear Word signs and especially the pronunciation aides.” “Kate’s topically correct joke on pigs really was funny smiley” “The epitome of a good Timer is to be as inconspicuous as possible. Tonight Elena was inconspicuous in her absence. Well done!” “Jill took us down two interesting tracks as she described ‘embracing diversity’ as her Inspiration.”

You couldn’t find a happier group of diverse personalities, abilities, and cultures who meet every Monday night to help each other in the quest to learn through fun and friendship. Our next meeting will be February 26th at 7:15 pm, when the theme will be “Wisdom”. If you are curious about Toastmasters please come as our Guests – we look forward to seeing you.
