HIGHLIGHTS

North Shore Toastmasters     t Club Meeting

December 18th, 2006.

“This was a terrific, festive meeting which involved us all very well.” “Our guests were amazing!” “A marvelous, enjoyable meeting. We all participated and had a lot of fun! The attendance was good, and the familiar guests were present.” “I liked the fact that several spouses / partners attended.” “The ambiance was warm, fun, educational, and as a guest I felt highly welcomed. Thank you.” “All-in-all an upbeat, festive, successful evening – this is why so many spouses and guests keep coming back!”

Once again our Dinner Meeting was held at Cheers Restaurant in North Vancouver. “Jack, Linda, and all of the staff at Cheers do a very good job hosting our dinner meetings. Tonight was no different.” “We appreciate the delicious meals and consistently fine service we receive at Cheers.”

“Don did a fantastic job setting the festive tone for the meeting.” “I was impressed with the appropriate bridging by Don as Chairman.” “Don’s introduction, A Season for the Senses, was well chosen and well presented.”

Every available attendee ‘danced’ to The Table Topics Twist. “I always enjoy Table Topics – a Highlight for me. Everyone is so creative!” “Great Table topics session with everybody making excellent presentations.” “Table Topics were a Highlight! What excellent topics, and all speakers handled their subjects well, giving demonstrations of changing sides in mid-speech is very good practice.” “Pam’s unique approach to Table Topics entertained us and at the same time encouraged the participants to think about both sides of an argument. Everybody was in the position of the devil’s advocate. What a challenge, especially with the unnerving bells!” “A terrifying Table Topic ‘dance’!! Wow, Pam! … Kudos or castigation…?!...” “The participants deserved the numerous accolades they received – every one of them arose admirably to the occasion.” “Elena’s fabulous Table Topic speech / argument about donating to charities was energetic, empathetic, and persuasive on both sides of the argument.” “In Elena’s Table Topic take on charity, she gave her usual ‘out of left field’ take on a subject which, as usual, was well thought out.” “I loved Dave F.’s positive take on the Table Topic theme he was given, with his usual darkly sardonic twist.” “I thought Dave F. did very well with his Table Topic, especially his humour, excellent transition, and the fact that he spoke right to the maximum 1 ½ minutes.” “Katie’s image of National Lampoon’s Christmas movie of bungling was memorable, including the not-so-salubrious moment where the rottweiler vomits under the dining-room table!” “Csaba’s ‘manic delivery’ was absolutely hilarious!” In fact, it was so popularly enjoyed that it was the winner of the Best Table Topic ribbon. smiley

“Stuart’s Toast reflected ‘the many elements of Christmas’, which was an interesting extension, in a way, to Don’s opening about the ‘seasonal senses’”.
His Speakers received their share of praise: “The prepared speeches were very good, especially Jill’s. It fitted the theme very nicely – something that doesn’t happen very often. Such a difficult, personally challenging speech was handled with expertise and a rich variety of verbal imagery and genuine emotions that touched us all.” “Excellent speech, well organized, by Wendy.” “Wendy’s speech was fantastic.” “I found Wendy’s speech very informative, and enjoyed her good sense of humour.” “Wendy’s speech was a Highlight: fabulous introduction connecting current events with those from her past. Also, interesting facts from the Yukon, especially the fact that some of the best dog sled ‘mushers’ are female teenagers.”

Dave F.’s joke was great – really terrific punchline!” “A Highlight for me was Dave’s nice joke.” “I liked Dave’s use and explanation of the expression ‘tightwad’ in his joke.” “Dave’s joke was a hoot!”

Christine was really initiated by fire volunteering to do her first time in the Timer’s role at a dinner meeting – twice as complicated as in a regular meeting. “Christine should be applauded for her role as first-time-Timer. Timing and eating at the same time proved to be great multitasking!”

“Kate brought ‘life’ to the Ah Counter.” “Kate’s introduction of wizard of Ahs was a great variation on the theme.” “Kate’s explanation of the role of Ah Counter had a humorous twist with her mention of the previous record she set as the “Um Queen at the meeting last week!”

“Dave S.’s Word of the Evening, salubrious worked – with humour as well.” “I found the Word of the Evening innovative and a challenge to use in presentations. It fitted the theme fairly well.” “The Word of the Evening was used extensively and people clearly had fun with the choice.”

“Omar gave a superb Inspiration that included a prop (not an element of most inspirational presentations) to start the meeting.” “Omar’s Inspiration was different … It really got me thinking.” “Omar made an excellent choice for his Inspiration – ‘Leaving Microsoft to Change the World’.” Omar’s prop was the aforementioned book, which one of the attendees won at the end of the meeting, with the promise to share it. There is a waiting list for it already! Thank you, Omar. smiley

“Karen gave a very confident and competent evaluation of Wendy’s speech.”
“Ruth’s evaluations are often a Highlight for me. Her meticulously detailed analysis of Jill’s speech was useful to all of us.”
“Li Ying’s Table Topic Evaluation was, as always, energetic, meaty, and constructive.” “Li Ying always has useful comments for the speakers.”
“I thought Jim’s thorough and humorous General Evaluation was a Highlight.” Jim was the winner of the Best Evaluator ribbon. “Jim’s evaluation was thorough and lighthearted.” “Jim’s General Evaluation was excellent.” ”Jim’s excellent use of humour in his General Evaluation showed how he can be so amazingly well-prepared and witty for something prepared throughout a busy dinner meeting. Bravo! A great way to end Toastmasters for 2006!”

“It was really nice to be able to get together with everyone before the holidays.” “The spirit of Christmas filled the entire evening! Well done, organizers!!”

Wishing everyone a warm-hearted, fun-filled holiday.
