North Shore Toastmasters Club Meeting
November 15th, 2004
“Impromptu Night was a great
success
As members arrived they drew from a bag the role they would
perform for the evening. The mood was relaxed, but the actual
performances were amazingly very professional, especially
considering the fact that no one had had a chance to prepare. We
were blessed with one Guest who arrived early, actually pitched
in with the room set-up, and was game enough to give us a Table
Topic speech even though it was his very first time at a
Toastmasters meeting!
You all know that telling a good joke is an art … especially
timing the punch line. We were fortunate to have time for both
Dave Stewart and Li Ying Kao to give us some lighthearted fun.
There is a small lie in the first paragraph … Li Ying Kao,
always on top of things, had arrived with most of the roles
prepared ‘just in case’, and her Table Topics session proved
what a good idea this had been. She had ‘sayings’ on which we
had to elaborate, such as “24 hours a day, 7 days a week – 24 /
7”, or “Think small.” Pam Elliott won the ribbon with her
explanation of “Pack as little as possible.”
The Toastmaster, Dave Stewart, should be congratulated on the
surprisingly well thought out and delivery of his impromptu
Toast.
Dave then introduced Jill McCormick as our impromptu Speaker.
The topic Jill was given was a 4 – 6 minute Ice Breaker based on
the structure of ‘past, present, future’. Jill’s long experience
in Toastmasters came to the fore, and she rose to the occasion
as though she had had a week to prepare. Knowing Jill for years,
the Bonus was learning some new things about her!
Wilma Atchison has worked hard on her speech evaluations and it
shows. The competition was stiff at this meeting but Wilma won
the prized ribbon for Best Evaluator
Neville Cohen announced that our Area Governor, Jan Furst,
invited him to visit his club on Bowen Island. A surprise is
coming up for them.
Next meeting will be Monday, November 22nd. See you all there!
