North Shore Toastmasters Club Halloween
Dinner Meeting
November 8th, 2004
“Past Events” was a fitting
theme for a meeting held just before Remembrance Day. Although
we did not focus entirely on that special occasion, it certainly
was acknowledged. “Retrospect” was an apt choice for our ‘Word
of the evening’, thanks to our Wordsmith, Jill McCormick.
Neville Cohen’s ‘two labeled hat’ brought some appreciative
chuckles as he introduced himself with the Sgt. @ Arms label,
and then switched to the Chairman label which he wore for the
rest of the meeting! This set a light tone for an able, very
well prepared lead role.
In the past we’ve mentioned Kathryn Kennedy’s ability to have
fun with even the minor roles, as her explanation of the Timer
exemplified.
Let’s take up the challenge .... let’s try to add a little more
pizzazz!
Dave Stewart cleverly wove the advantages of being a Toastmaster
into his impromptu joke, and in her Table Topic, Li Ying Kao
told us the attributes of our club that helped her choose to
join us (of course, we are so glad she did!). Kudos to you both
Well in sync: Pam Elliott challenged the Table Topic Speakers to
‘tell a story’ about the topic they were given, and to do their
best to have a ‘good strong conclusion’. Then, in his evaluation
of the Speakers, Dave Stewart focused on these objectives, and
the manner in which he gave his feedback earned him the ribbon
for the Best Evaluator
Stuart Manning, our Toastmaster, was congratulated for ‘really’
drinking a Toast with us, rather than just pretending to have a
glass at the lectern with him. Another thing for the rest of us
to keep in mind?
Evaluating our two experienced Speakers, Gil Hardman and Gerhard
Rentsch, must have been difficult, but Ruth Sol and Li Ying Kao
made it seem like a piece of cake. They had no trouble pointing
out the strengths of the Speakers, yet they also impressively
were able to give them each pointers to help add a little extra
bit of polish for next time.
Next Meeting Nov. 15th – Impromptu Night – Come join in the fun!
