North Shore Toastmasters Club Meeting
September 27th, 2004
In her dual role as Chairman and Toastmaster,
Kathryn was incredible – innovative, excellent bridging, as well
as spicing things up by assigning last minute roles and
innovating an additional one that included the entire audience!
Two fun innovations especially kept us entertained and on our
toes this meeting:
Li’s “Fruit and Vegetable” Table
Topics were a great hit, and
Kathryn’s idea (because we had a
little extra time) to have a general evaluation by the
audience of the Evaluators (over and above the General
Evaluator’s observations). This proved to be an exercise
that benefited both the audience and the assigned
Evaluators.
Smaller meetings give a chance for all to
shine. In particular:
Shoko – Ah Counting, again, having
been asked at the last minute, and she also succeeded in
delivering a well done Table Topic. Kudos!!
Dave Stewart took the ribbons for
both Table Topics and for Best Evaluator. He was in
great form – his Table Topic had us in gales of
laughter.
We had an inspiring Educational Presentation
on The Mentor Program by Jill (towards her CL).
Neville, as General Evaluator, was rightly concerned about
‘Applause Protocol’. Clarification: The Applause Protocol for the Audience is: The Introducer begins
the applause right after making his/her introduction, and the
audience claps until the Introducer and The Person Being
Introduced begin to shake hands. The Applause Protocol for the Person Being Introduced is: This
person immediately gets up with enthusiasm and makes his/her way
as quickly as possible to the lectern.
Some people, particularly during Table Topics, tend to drag
their feet while they think on their way up to the lectern but
this is unfair to the audience, and, sorry to say it … ‘poor
form’.
So…Ladies and Gentlemen … let’s pick up our feet and show our
audience how enthusiastic we are (even when we truly aren’t sure
that’s how we feel at the time!).
Good catch, Neville – Thank you
