DISTINGUISHED CLUB PROGRAM (DCP)
The Distinguished Club Program
was established to help build strong, vibrant clubs. It does
this by encouraging clubs to grow in four ways:
-
Through increasing the actual
size of the club membership;
-
Through encouraging members’
personal growth as speakers by achieving the objectives in the
speech manuals;
-
Through the experience of giving
and hearing a special series of enriching presentations which
encompass both the growth of individuals and the club as a
whole;
-
Through the leadership of a knowledgeable club executive.
We are
asked by Toastmasters International to set goals (see below) for the
club at the beginning of the September to July 1st year. We do this and
a copy is sent to Toastmasters International and to the District
executive.
Our club prides itself on honouring the needs of our individual members
and helping them in every way we can. This means that the people who
want to improve their skills but are also very busy, have the
opportunity to do things as they are able, and that the people who are
keen to do as much as they can have the opportunity to give speeches
spaced just 5 – 6 weeks apart (spaced so that they give themselves the
chance to learn and grow even further before their next formal
presentation). The goals we set at the beginning of the year are not
always achievable by the end of the year for a variety of reasons, and
we do not want our members to rush through a program before they have
honestly achieved those required skills just for the sake of an award.
Neither does Toastmasters International. With this in mind, we area
proud to say that no matter how high we may have set our sights, we have
always achieved a place in the Distinguished Club Program.
